Dragon Scholar [userpic]
Magical Girl and Magical Knight Contest Results

Well this has been a great contest and we got some fantastic entries. First, I want to congradulate everyone on entering - it was a tough contest with a lot of good art and competition. Our judges had to take hours to come up with the results.

And here they are:
Jackie Lantern, the Pumpkin Princess by Falingard was our top tricky treat!

RUNNERS UP:
Evil Musician by Gimmick knows how to call the tunes!

Luyu by ExiledChaos flew into our hearts!

HONORABLE MENTION:

Argannon by Joshiro007x is styling and flying!

Time Knight by LilTigre  makes watching the clock a lot more enjoyable!

If anyone wants additional feedback, feel free to post questions here to LJ.

You can also see all of the entrants and our comments here on the contest site. We kept comments on the positive things since this is highly public, but if you want more feedback, put a post here.

Let's hear it for our winners!

Comments

Thanks for linking the contest to your LJ. The entries were really amazing.

Well done!

Yay! Congrats to all the winners :D Everyone did a really great job and I'm happy for the turnout.

... yeah I'd like additional feedback 8D Just wondering what could've been improved, cause I like to get better~ Hee, cuddly <3!

Well, here's my take on your works:

Basically, they're good. In fact you've got an interestingly functional minimalism and you ran with the descriptions well.

I'd say the best way to improve is to actually run with your strengths - the minimalism and the sense of character. Work on precision, work on adding that subtle little extra here and there, the extra thickness of line, so you can leverage a bit more detail into a lot.

You have your own style, keep growing it!

*latelate reply* Ah, thanks so much for the feedback. I completely agree with you on everything, I'll try my best to add more detail to my future works~ Thanks again! *adds you back*

Keep the additions subtle. YOu've got an effective minimalism, so run with that. It's just getting more out of what you got or adding a bit more.

Stunning, all the top placements! Congratz to everyone!

And congratz to another successful contest.

Thanks for helping me get inspired - and the next contest comes October 1st!

Congratz to the winners! *throws confetti around*

Nyhaha! I'd appriciate additional feedback too. I need lots of critique to improve o_O

Sure!

On your coloring, be careful not to overwhelm your linework. Line thickness, etc. can add a lot of detail. Your sense of color seems good - you didn't muddy colors, you worked with them well, and things stood out nicely. I especially liked Joli's background with the hearts - that really was neat.

Work on your torsos, they seemed overlong. You do seem to remember things like muscle groups and knee detail, which is good.

You did OK on the clothes, but more detail on Joli would have been nice, and with Anjia, you missed that it was gray and green in even proportions in the descriptions - however I feel overall her outfit was the most interesting of the two.

One of your strengths seems to be imagination (such as coming up with good names, Joli's simple-yet-effective background) so leverage that as well - keep cutting loose to see if it brings new ideas. You also seem to respond well to challenges like this, so setting up various challenges/projects for yourself is probably a good way to improve.

Thank you! =D

*plans already his projects*

A few things I've seen:
1) Do an online comic.
2) Create a series of interpretations. A friend once started interpreting the Ghosts from "A Christmas Carol" as Anime Bishounen.
3) Create a schedule of challenges, such as do one character every week or something.
4) Break things down into parts. "This week I shall perfect this coloring technique." or something.

Combine the above.

{The following message should be read in an annoyed, yet happily sarcastic, tone} Ok. I sent two emails to you and a comment to 7S; now I've gotten an Lj account and am leaving this message. You WILL get this message & you WILL reply to it, or you WILL be attacked by stealthy whales that live to destroy! You read right, I will stand for this no longer! Whales don't get the credit that they deserve, especially the stealthy ones, & I demand something be done about this at once! I mean, if people treated them with the proper respect they wouldn't have to live to destroy and everyone would be a lot happier. Especially Little Timmy, who was sadly eaten by said whales last week...poor, poor Little Timmy.

*Somewhere far away, and not off topic* So…I bet you’re wondering what this is about, right? Well here ya’ go: I drew an entry for the, now ended, 7S Magical Girl/Knight contest. I sent it in an email to DragonScholar@gmail.com on Sept. 14th, another email on the 16th, & a 7S comment on the 19th or 20th. Yeah...either something got totally messed up or people aren't checking their email/comment inbox thingy. Now the contest is over & I have a picture of a magical girl that took me a month and a half to finish and nothing to do with it. But that’s cool. I mean you people obviously don't like me, but I will move on! Yes, I will continue with my dull lil life void of Saintly Potions, First Fear Flyers, and the famous Hiding Squadron Fighting Rangers. Nope, don't worry about me…I’m fine...*sniffle* Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to go huddle in a corner and cry my sad little eyes out. *sob*

Now please don’t think I’m writing this to bash anyone, cause I’m not. I should have finished it and sent it in a lot sooner then I did. I blame it on the fact that my Freshman year of college started about a month ago & inhaled any and all time I may have had. And don’t think I’m writing this because I expect to get anything out of it, cause I don't. I mean the contest is over, the winners have already been chosen, and the prizes have most likely been sent out, It's not like you can go, "Oops, we missed Lil Fushi's entry…Give us back the prizes!! We have to do a recount!" That would be kinda really stupid and people would hate me (not to mention how complicated it would get once the Perfect and Unified Tyranny got involved). I would, however, be incredibly grateful if you would stick my entry in with the other ones when the MG-K contest page gets archived. Maybe stick a blurb somewhere telling people to go look at it or something. Pretty please? I’d really like to refrain from releasing the stealthy whales that live to destroy. I don’t want another “Little Timmy” to happen, the lawsuits are just devastating my checking account.
Thanks! ...I'm going to shut up now.

Comments and Critques are welcome & appreciated.
I still have the original email & can forward it to whomever as soon as you give me an email address.

Re: *Sob*

This is pretty weird. I checked all my email boxes and didn't see anything. I did get your seventh sanctum comment. I'll put this on the site in the "for fun" section so people can see the results of your hard work.

(and nice job on the circuit design)

Re: *Sob*

Yay! ^.^ *ish happy* Thanks for the compliment! I used part of a pic I found of an actual circuit & deformed it so it would follow the flow of the dress. Took me awhile to get all the different pieces to match up, but it looks better than if I would've tried to draw one myself.

Re: *Sob*

It's quite a good job.

Now, next contest, I know you'll get an entry in early. And that'll be announced October 1st!

Hi! Thank you very much for the conest. I'm extremely happy that I got the runner ups!

Um..I was wondering when we can get our prizes (or do runner ups get any at all? I forgot). I don't mean to rush you, but I simply wanted to know when.

I was hoping that I didn't give you my wrong email address, too.

It's spinzoa@gmail.com

and thanks again!

Yep, you do win! $20.00 at Amazon!
